Brief overview:
Consultancy services provided were centered on the development of a study to analyse the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as a mechanism to facilitate the Smuggling of Migrants in Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama), as well as in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Some of the research activities carried out were desk research, tests, studies and remote and physically interviews with different key stakeholders from international, public and private sectors along with migrants and civil society organizations. It also included a comparative analysis to identify common norms, institutional frameworks, and financing structures in order to strengthen cooperation among the countries of this region; in addition, the study comprised a set of recommendations to strengthen governmental capacities for a better identification of smuggling of migrants through TICs.
