The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of people around the world. In 2015, all UN Member States adopted 17 Goals as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which sets out a plan to achieve the Goals in 15 years.

The 2030 Agenda is based on the well-known 5Ps:
- On People: ensure the dignity and equality of all human beings and end poverty and hunger.
- On the Planet: protecting natural resources and combating climate change.
- On Prosperity: to ensure that all people can enjoy a prosperous life in harmony with nature.
- On Peace: to promote peaceful, inclusive, and just societies.
- On Partnership: to implement the 2030 Agenda with partnerships based on solidarity and focused on helping the most vulnerable.
